How ActiPatch Works
The science behind ActiPatch is well-proven and it has been used as an office based therapy for many years. This technology is now available for use outside of the office setting in an easy to wear
patch that is placed directly over the soft tissue injury.
ActiPatch is drug-free, easy to use and in most cases relieves pain and swelling fast.
When the soft tissues of the body are injured, swelling (edema) serves to disconnect the cells within the tissue thereby preventing the spread of infection. In cases of injury, trauma or after antiseptic
surgical procedures, this normal inflammatory response causes discomfort and
pain without contributing to the healing process. In fact, in many cases and especially for surgical wounds, this swelling is usually more damaging than helpful.
ActiPatch therapy is directed toward re-establishing cell communication, and suppressing the
edemic response. All tissues are composed of cell networks in which cell to cell communications relies extensively on cell to cell proximity. When
swelling and edema occur as a result of trauma or injury, cell to cell communications is greatly reduced resulting in poor coordination and extended healing time. In the absence of normal cell contact,
ActiPatch
therapy can be used as a coordinating signal to synchronize the activity of the cells within the tissue, thereby returning tissues to normal function in a shorter period of time. The therapeutic goal of
ActiPatch is to induce the tissues to rapidly pass through, or completely bypass, the tissue damaging phase of the
swelling and inflammatory process in order to reduce the time of recovery.
The technology on which ActiPatch is based,
electrotherapy, has been used for decades to reduce pain and swelling following injury. The clinical evidence of its efficacy is overwhelming and is supported by multiple scientific studies. Now the science is catching up with the clinical evidence and we are reaching a better understanding of the electro-therapies mechanisms of action and learning that very low power levels, when used chronically, can produce equivalent results to the high power, transient treatments associated with cumbersome traditional machines. These lower power levels, which have been integrated into
ActiPatch, allow us to pack the power of
electrotherapy into a wearable, affordable patch. ActiPatch therapy is highly effective in treating multiple types of
soft tissue injuries.
